Order of Operations It’s important for solving equations and it’s just as important in running a full class. You want the whole process to be efficient, fun, energetic, informative, and fun (I mention it twice because it’s that important). This video talks about how. Let Them Fail It’s said that failure is the greatest teacher but you want to use failure properly so that you don’t fail as an instructor and set your students up for success. Identifying Complexity* Keep it simple. Watch the video. Also, repetition, so watch it again. Language, Feedback, and Correction* Words are important and phrasing sentences properly can make all the difference in your student’s success. If you have something that’s mostly mental, then you don’t want to put the wrong thing in there head. It’s also super important when dealing with a still developing mind. Know Your Students* If your goal is to make someone the best version of themselves, then you need to know where they are at so that you can guide them forward. This video covers one of the best ways to do that. Know Your Assistants This is about other instructors and “big kids” and how it relates to you and your students. You Need a Black Belt It’s difficult to guide someone to a destination that you’ve not been to. It’s necessary to know the context of your art if you are adapting it for others. It’s important to understand that most things are similar but different and then how to utilize that knowledge. (Or just watch the video to understand this description.) You Must Improve as Well The moment you stop trying to get better is when you start getting worse. The Meltdown* If you taught kids for a bit, then you probably had to deal with a kid melting down into a sea of tears and incoherent babbling. If you are a parent, you’ve definitely encountered this. This video contains an amazing trick for that situation! Your Curriculum* I talk about setting up your techniques based on what you teach and how you teach it and the various ways to go about that. Patience* Just wait for it. (That’s a joke.) Really this is probably the most important thing that you can have as an instructor and there is a secret to it. What’s great is that you don’t have to wait for it, just watch this video and I’ll tell you all about it.
